وَلَن تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللَّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَىٰ ۗ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُم بَعْدَ الَّذِي جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ۙ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their MILLAT (‘Way of LIfe’/LifeStyle). Say, “Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance.” If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper.

ইহুদী ও খ্রীষ্টানরা কখনই আপনার প্রতি সন্তুষ্ট হবে না, যে পর্যন্ত না আপনি তাদের জীবন ব্যাবস্থার অনুসরণ করেন। বলে দিন, যে পথ আল্লাহ প্রদর্শন করেন, তাই হল সরল পথ। যদি আপনি তাদের আকাঙ্খাসমূহের অনুসরণ করেন, ঐ জ্ঞান লাভের পর, যা আপনার কাছে পৌঁছেছে, তবে কেউ আল্লাহর কবল থেকে আপনার উদ্ধারকারী ও সাহায্যকারী নেই।
Critical Reasoning:
Let’s dissect the Ayah first:
1. ‘Never would the kuffar satisfy on you UNTIL you follow their DEEN (millat) (‘Way of Life’/Life Style)’
Meaning, you can go step by step to satisfy Kuffar, you think you will have a good relation, you will be safe, you won’t be harmed, but kuffar will demand more and more and more.
Meaning, you can leave Allah’s Deen little by little, remove your Hijab, just put on a scarf, make your deen ‘as you like’, shorten your beard, pray Salat when you get back home, pray sitting on your chair lest your colleagues undermine you, do not bother to look for Jama’a, not even for the Jumu’a, so that Kuffar may approve you working with them.
Meaning, you can fly to hug a Kafir woman because she has been so generous and kind and you can think she will accept you as ‘good’ Muslim. But you have just shown others to go beyond Allah’s limit, hugging a Kafir woman.
But Allah, the All Knowledgeable warned you in black and white, they will not stop there until they turn you away from Allah’s deen.
Therefore, the next stages will follow, until you follow their Hawa (desire) leaving the guidance of Allah. (May Allah protect you and me from the fitnah of the Kuffar)
2. ‘Say, Allah’s GUIDANCE is the ONLY Guidance.’
What’s the guidance for?
Guidance is for Ebadah,
Guidance is for the systems of life/’ways of life’
3. ‘But if you are to follow their ways (Hawa) after this guidance (this way of life).’
Here Allah mentions it as their ‘HAWA’, meaning desire.
Which means, their ways of life is designed from their desires (Hawa), whatever their heart desires, whatever they think is ‘best’, because they left the ways of their creator long back.
So, Allah Subhanahu clearly warned you that if you follow their ways,
4. ‘Then you won’t find anybody to help you against Allah.’
What does this mean?
Following Kuffar’s Deen means you are destroyed, you made Allah angry.
The 3rd Question:
Do you know about the questions in Qabr?
Here comes the Hadith which states the 3rd questions in the Qabr, “What is your Deen? (Sunan Abu Dawood, Vol 5, Book 39, The Book of the Sunnah, Hadith No. 4753; Musnad Ahmad, 18063 al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1676.)
And therefore, this Ayah of the Quran and the said Hadith leading to the reason of asking of the THIRD question in Qabr.
So, how would you respond and who will help you against Allah’s anger in the Qabr to begin with? And yet we are not sure whether this punishment even will end in Qabr or continue during the Qiyamah or even lead to the Jahannam. Allah knows best.
But that only tells you the certainty of punishment but yet we really don’t know the degree or the level of treatment. And what kind of punishment that would be?
Depends on how the matter will be treated, right?
Allah Ta’ala didn’t mention the category of punishment but you can understand, it will be severe because of Allah’s way of warning, “You won’t find anyone to help you”
SubhanAllah, another Hadith comes in the mind,
Remember other Hadiths which describe that different Malaika will approach the person from the different sides in the Qabr and then Salat, Siam, Quran etc ebadah will protect the person from the punishment of those Malaika?*
But here Allah says, “None will be at your aid”
Does this give some clue how the matter will be dealt with, what would be the grade of the punishment?
And here the other hadith comes: you know the Hadith that sets the level of treatment on following the Kuffar’s deen.
“The one who follows kuffar’s ways, he is one of them” (Abu Dawood, al-Libaas, 3512. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh Abi Dawood, (it is) hasan saheeh. No. 3401)
As per this hadith, it could make a Muslim, one of ‘them’, meaning who belongs to the party of the Kuffar.
Does it mean, even though a Muslim gives two correct answers in the grave, failing to give the correct answer to the 3rd question could block his way to Jannah? Allah knows best, I can’t imagine.
May Allah make Muslim to understand and save from Allah’s punishment.
Why only reading a translation is not enough to save you from the punishment of Allah, Shadidul Eqab?
When you read a translation, how was the word ‘millat’ translated? As ‘Religion’. So, you think, ‘Hey, I don’t follow their religion, I follow Islam’ That’s how you are done understanding this ayah, therefore, you don’t realize the importance of this Ayah as a Muslim. And that’s how you are heading towards the punishment of Allah. May Allah guide you and me and save from Allah’s punishment.
Did you notice how you should greet a Muslim? Do you not understand the importance of mentioning something in the Quran, Does it not cross your mind, how important it is to follow Allah’s prescribed way in your daily life? Then how come you say, ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ to a Muslim? Is it Allah’s deen you followed or the deen of the Kuffar? (Just as one quick example, and there are hundreds of them if not thousands). Then, what not in your daily life you follow the ways of the Kuffar?
May Allah guide you and me to follow Allah’s Deen completely. Ameen.
