4:60

Sahih International

Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to Taghut, while they were commanded to reject it; and Satan wishes to lead them far astray.

Let’s do a critical REASONING!

“Have you not seen those?

  • Who CLAIM to have believed in what was revealed to you”,

Who Allah talking about here?

Those who CLAIM they believed in Quran, (as that’s what revealed to Rasulullah sallillahu alaihi wa sallam). Means this Ayah is talking about those who THINK they are Muslims.

  • “and what was revealed before you?”

Who believed in the books before Muhammad Rasulullah?

Muslim!

  • They wish to refer legislation to Taghut,

So, what is meant by TAGHUT?

That’s a VERY BIG one, a lot to understand what the word encompasses. You want to know the detail, once and for all? Read from here from one of those who possesses the knowledge and just by understanding and realising it’s meaning could be enough for your life because only this could be enough for you to save yourself and your family from Jahannam. May Allah give us understanding and save from Jahannam.

But to simply put, those who legislate (Parliamentarians), enforce (Police, Military), implement (Judges, lawyers), work (Employees), to any laws that made by MEN which goes against a SET LAW sent by the ONLY LAWGIVER, Allah, the Creator of the universe, are called TAGHUT. Though our scholars even further widen the range of Taghut to include THOSE who even SUPPLIES necessities like milk, water or whatever logistics to these Taghut.

But did you notice Allah didn’t talk about Taghut here in relation to shaitan?

 Surprisingly, yes!

That’s because the Taghut’s are already out of Islam. (you can understand that by reading the link above). But Allah talking here about MUSLIMS! Those who CLAIM to be Muslims!

What does it mean by “Those who CLAIM to be Muslims! ?”

Those (general people, Muslims) who obey and live in content in accepting those laws. The meaning of it is that being a Muslim and obeying the law from Taghut do not go together. The expression shows that Allah doesn’t ACCEPT and recognise them as Muslim.

You can understand it by an analogy using the same expression.
“Did you see that man, who claims I owe money to him?”
What does it mean to you?
When do you say that?
Only when you do not recognize that you ever took money from this man.
It means that you have no idea what the man is talking about or what the man claims about.
You tell this only when you DENY what he claims!
You tell this about the man only when his claim is not acceptable to you.

Does it make sense now that Allah does not recognise those as Muslims, those who refer or willingly seek law from Taghut. That’s about those Muslims who prefer other than Allah’s Law.

In fact, that’s seems like a KUFR in Allah’s law because they refer LAW willingly to someone or some other authority (in today’s context it is the laws from UN, laws from the Kuffar) by leaving Allah’s law. But Allah mentions here using different connotation that He doesn’t recognise them as Muslims.

And that’s about those who willingly refer or seek LAW/ Judgement from Taghut.
And we can derive the understanding that someone willingly seeking LAW/ Judgement form Taghut (who judge by other than Allah’s law) is a Kafir, even he claims himself as a Muslim, as because this Ayah proves the connotation that Allah doesn’t recognise him as a Muslim.

But what about a situation where a Muslim living in a land where Allah’s Law doesn’t exist?
Meaning, the land is ruled by Taghut and the Muslims are now forced to seek judgement from Taghut?.

Well,
first of all, a Muslim must not live under the law and rule of Taghut.
But when they were forced the law of Taghut in their homelands, because the Kuffar has invaded and taken their lands few hundred years back, they should have fight back to free their lands from the Kuffar, from the Taghut.

And the genreal understanding we can derive that it’s not a Muslim’s

But what about those Muslims who have no concern about it that their life has always been ruled by the law of Taghut?

It is the fact that Taghut (The Kuffar) has forced their Law on Muslims long back, a few generation back. Question is, does it make the next generations to take it easy because they have been born in a land which has been ruled by That they were forced
And then, what about those who willingly submitting to the law of Taghut by directly living under their law?

Those who are living under the law of Taghut, or forced they should make every effort not to submit to any law that contradicts Allah’s law.

What does it mean by “REFERRING the law to Taghut?”  Can you please elaborate?

  • Does Allah have a LAW of how much Zakah you give from your earning?
Yes! Then when you pay VAT, GST, Taxes, are these according to Allah’s law or according to the man-made law?
  • Didn’t Allah say, He will ask you “WHAT you EARNED and HOW you earned and HOW you spend that?” How would you respond to this second question? You already failed by obeying and being content in Taghut’s law and shaitan gives ohee to your Ulema to make it obligatory for you saying “obeying the law of the land” (for those living in kuffar’s land) {(and in that case you already made him your Rabb (when your Ulema made something halal for you which Allah made haram and you obey him, you take him as your Rabb)}

  • What about the Law of lending? The law of currency? The law of killing? The Law of stealing? The Law of adultery? Did Allag made RIBA (Interest) and its association HARAM for you? Then how your ‘Muslim’ government made it halal for you (which already made it a TAGHUT) and your ‘Islamic’ banking based on strong connection with it while you were ORDERED to REJECT it? What other law you follow which are clearly AGAINST Allah’s law but you obey and remain content with it? Don’t you call yourself Muslim? That’s what Allah says, “they CLAIM to believe in Quran but they refer the law to taghut” Does it make sense now?

  • “While they were commanded to reject it;”

Does it mean they (Muslims) were commanded to REJECT it (the law from Taghut)?

No doubt about that!

  • and Satan wishes to lead them far astray.

Does it seem here Allah, Shadidul Ekab, the most severe in punishment, saying about the consequences?

Absolutely. they are leading by shaitan to astray

What does leading means?

Guidance!

What does astray means?

Only one meaning, Jahannam!

and Let’s understand a SIMPLE MATH now!

  • shaitan promised to take sons of Adam to Jahannam.
  • Here in this Ayah Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala mentions there are those who are guided by shaitan, they are leading by shaitan.
  • Therefore, where does shaitan inevitably lead them to?
  • Only one destination, Jahannam!
