Al-Baqarah 2:132

وَوَصَّىٰ بِهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَا بَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

 

And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], “O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this Deen (Systems of Allah, The way of life), so do not die except while you are Muslims (fully obeying and following Allah’s system).”

এরই ওছিয়ত করেছে ইব্রাহীম তার সন্তানদের এবং ইয়াকুবও যে, হে আমার সন্তানগণ, নিশ্চয় আল্লাহ তোমাদের জন্য তাঁর দ্বীন (জীবনের প্রতিটি পর্যায়ে অনুসরনীয় জীবন যাপন পদ্দতি, জীবন ব্যবস্থা)  মনোনীত করেছেন। কাজেই তোমরা মুসলমান না হয়ে (পুরোপুরিভাবে, প্রতিটি বিষয়ে আল্লাহর নির্দেশ না মেনে, আল্লাহর প্রদত্ত জীবন ব্যবস্থা অনুসরন না করে) কখনও মৃত্যুবরণ করো না।

My Critical Reasoning and understanding:

Who gives the Nasiah here?

Ibraheem and Yaqub.

Whom they gave Nasiah to?

To their children

Were their children already Muslim?

Yes

Then what’s the point advising them not to die except being Muslim? Did they fear that their children would leave being Muslim?

I don’t think so. Rather the only meaning is that the ‘Muslim’ means the one fully obedient, fully submitted to Allah, the one who fully obeys the Systems of Allah, the one who follow the ‘Ways of Life’ prescribed by Allah Ta’ala.

This emphasizes and gives WARNING that ‘DO NOT DIE’ following OTHER SYSTEMS/ Way of Life in your DAILY LIFE except that of the system prescribed by Allah. Do not leave the systems of Allah and live by the acts and mind-set of systems that injected in your blood by the Kuffar through their education system and

Read this or follow this to know what are the systems of the Kuffar you are living with by your acts and mind-set in a daily life, that is indeed SHIRK, though you claim you are Muslim and you do Hajj, Salah, Siam, Zakah etc. (Whoever applicable to). These will not benefit you if you do not follow Allah’s systems in your daily life. Because Allah does not forgive SHIRK, you know that.

As I mentioned elsewhere following a traditional translation today, in this era might not save you from Jahannam. The translations of this ayah in traditional books is a proof of that.

Why and how a traditional translation fails to benefit Muslims from the understanding of this Ayah?

You won’t notice the true meaning of DEEN when it is translated as ‘Religion’, you would probably think Islam is your religion, in reality, you will keep following the DEEN of the Kuffar’s.

Same with ‘Muslim’, you probably won’t notice the meaning of ‘do not die except being ‘Muslim’, by reading a traditional translation, because you are already Muslim, but the meaning of Muslim is he who obeys Allah fully, in full submission. He follows Allah’s system fully in his life. He just does not do worship only and follows the systems of the Kuffar’s in daily life. Rather, he might fall short in Ebadah, in the matter of worship but he NEVER follows the system other than the system prescribed by Allah, the Most High.

While I give Dawah to people, I had to cite examples and comparison among all the religions. Now, it will astonish you to know the understanding of non-Muslims about what is called ‘religion’. I was comparing Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Surprisingly he said, “not Buddhism because that’s not a religion, that’s a WAY of LIFE”. I got astonished!

Exactly this is the mindset of most of the Muslims today, Islam means religion, Deen means religion, not a ‘WAY of LIFE’.

As the majority of Muslims following the way of life of the Kuffar’s, Islam doesn’t mean to them a ‘WAY of LIFE’ any more. The way of life of the Kuffar’s is in their blood today.
