Abu Dawud 1551: Dua to PROTECT yourself from Gibah/ Backbiting

“‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ

مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي
وَمِنْ شَرِّ بَصَرِي
وَمِنْ شَرِّ لِسَانِي
وَمِنْ شَرِّ قَلْبِي
وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي ‏”‏

“O Allah, I seek refuge in you
from the evil of what I hear,
from the evil of what I see,
from the evil of what I speak,
from the evil of what I think,
and from the evil of my semen” (i.e. sexual passion)

This is one Dua, SubhanAllah!
Very basic but comprehensive Dua.
Most of the time these are the sources that lead us to sins and harm.
A Must dua for Muslims.

Easy way to memorise is to break it up like:

আল্লাহুম্মা ইন্নি আউজুবিকা

১। মিন শাররি সামঈই
২। ওয়া মিন শাররি লিসানিই
৩। ওয়া মিন শাররি বাচরিই
৪। ওয়া মিন শাররি কলবিই
৫। ওয়া মিন শাররি মানিঈই

ও আল্লাহ্‌, আমি তোমার কাছে আশ্রয় চাই,
১। আমার কান যেন অশ্লীল কিছু না শোনে, নোংরা কোন কিছু শোনার আকাঙ্খা থেকে,
২। আমার জিহ্বার পাপ থেকে, অশ্লীল কোন কথা বলা থেকে, তুমি অসন্তুষ্ট হও এমন কোন কথা থেকে
৩। আমার চোখের পাপ থেকে, দেখার মাধ্যমে যা কিছু পাপ হয় তা থেকে
৪। আমার অন্তরের নোংরামী থেকে,
৫। আমার অশ্লীল কোন আকাঙ্ক্ষা থেকে।

সুনান আবু দাউদ ১৫৫১

Narrated Shakl ibn Humayd:

I said: Messenger of Allah, teach me a supplication.

He said: Say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of what I hear, from the evil of what I see, from the evil of what I speak, from the evil of what I think, and from the evil of my semen” (i.e. sexual passion)

مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، – الْمَعْنَى – عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ بِلاَلٍ الْعَبْسِيِّ، عَنْ شُتَيْرِ بْنِ شَكَلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ شَكَلِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ – قَالَ – قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً قَالَ ‏ “‏ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ بَصَرِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ لِسَانِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ قَلْبِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي ‏”‏ ‏.‏
