وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ
Shabbir Ahmed Translation:
(People will confront you with what the majority is doing.) Now if you pay heed to, or get intimidated by majority of those who live on earth, they will lead you astray from Allah’s Way. Most of the people follow nothing but conjecture and they only live by guesswork
Bijan Moeinian Translation:
If [instead of the Allah’s Book,] you follow the opinion of the majority [as it is the case of today’s democracies], they will divert you from the path of God. The majority of the people follow nothing but unfounded guess works [as they do not know the truth.]

My Comment:
I just feel that understanding of a new Muslim would help you understand more about this issue of thinking, ‘since most of the people doing it, it must be correct’ but clearly your creator said the opposite.
So what would you trust, your creator? or your own understanding of life? One thing I can say is, if your understanding goes against what your creator says then only reason is that your understanding was developed by the ingredients of those who have no idea about their creator.
